When should you see a Fertility Specialist?

In Australia, at least one in six couples will have difficulty falling pregnant. You are NOT ALONE.

Seeing a Fertility Specialist does not mean you need IVF treatment.

A Fertility Specialist can empower you with knowledge about your health and fertility to assist with life planning and provide you with helpful information including timelines you may need to consider and how to improve your chances of conceiving naturally now or in the future.

Dr. Ong is a passionate advocate of preventative medicine and taking charge of your fertility, you should not hesitate to get an early referral to a Fertility Specialist.

From a simple blood test that can tell you how many eggs you have left and advice on identifying the right time for you and your partner to conceive; right through to reproductive surgery and IVF treatment – Dr. Ong and his team can guide you along your fertility journey.

We believe knowledge is power and you have the right to all the information available to make some of the most important decisions of your life.

You should see a Fertility Specialist if you are under 35 and failed to fall pregnant after 12 months or more of regular unprotected sexual intercourse. If you are 35 or older, you should only try for six months before making an appointment.

If you are concerned about your fertility, there is no need to wait especially if you have the following conditions:

  • Female aged 38 or older
  • Blocked fallopian tubes at any age
  • History of endometriosis
  • Male conditions such as twisted testicles, cancer of the testis, previous chemotherapy
  • Ovulation problems such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
  • Uterine structure abnormalities such as uterine septum, adhesions and fibroids

Your Fertility Specialist is also able to advise you on issues related to fertility preservation such as egg or sperm freezing to empower you for the future.

Finding the right specialist for you is important.

Make sure you don’t feel intimidated or get bamboozled by information overload. Take your time and get the facts and find a specialist you like and trust.

Dr. Ong and his team provide compassionate care in a time when you need it most.
